Freedom Fest at Flushing Town Hall
Tuesday September 6, 2005
This month Flushing Town Hall hosts the second annual Freedom Fest, a celebration in several parts of Flushing's heritage and value of freedom of belief and expression. Flushing became the birthplace of religious freedom in the new world when the early Dutch colonists defied their governor in petitioning for freedom of worship. Today, over 300 years later, Flushing is one of the most diverse places in the world with Christian churches, Hindu temples, Buddhist temples, synagogues, and mosques, often across the street from one another, a wonderful testament to Flushing's founders and to the United States.
