Queens Real Estate Peaking?

Thursday August 25, 2005
Yesterday a real estate trade group released July housing numbers, showing Queens, along with Nassau and Suffolk to continue the march of house price increases. However, the number of unsold homes increased for an "eighth straight month." Newsday reported:
"Local economists and real estate agents said the rising inventory likely has two causes: homes staying on the market longer as buyers balk at ever-higher prices, and an influx of houses put up for sale by those hoping to cash in at what they believe is close to the top of this market cycle."
Could this actually mean real estate prices in Queens will soon level off? Perhaps. What's clear to me is that real estate is the conversation du jour, heard on the subway, park bench, and down the hall. And when everyone is talking about something, it's time, no doubt, will soon pass. (Also see the NY Times on possible real estate market peak.)
