Four Guys From Queens: Entourage on HBO
The HBO show Entourage, now in its second season, is the story of four guys from Queens, one making it big in Hollywood, and the other three tagging along for the ride. The show has gotten better and better, with enough momentum for the NY Times to notice it.
The fellas don't forget their Queens roots. I don't know if the characters come from a specific neighborhood, but they've talked about Kew Gardens. In the first season, the star, Vince (Adrian Grenier), was the lead in a fictional indie film titled Queens Blvd.
Vince's agent Ari Gold, played by Jeremy Piven, regularly steals the show with his verbal abuse of underlings and horrific grandstanding. Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon), Vince's older brother, is another show-stealer with his inappropriate moves and mind. Drama also has a showbiz career, albeit one whose highlight was the unfortunately fictional Viking Quest series. It's a beautiful sendup of the actor's own relationship with brother Matt Dillon.
All the Queens fellas are getting more interesting in the second season. And I like how they enjoy their California cuisine but also go for New York comfort food like chomping on thin slices in last weekend's show (Was that set at Abbot's Pizza in Venice?). Here's hoping for an Entourage trip back home.
