Astorian Weekend Edition - July 29

Friday July 29, 2005
Joey in Astoria isn't in Astoria this weekend. I'm filling in while she's on vacation.

This weekend is all about comfort, especially since the heat has broken for at least a day or two. Wake up late on Saturday. Yeah, even too late. Skip the pastries and go straight for a lemon ice at La Guli Pastry Shop (2915 Ditmars Blvd). Then fill up proper with a hot dog, Chilean style, at San Antonio Bakery #2 (36-20 Astoria Blvd). Their hot dog completo is topped with guacamole, mayo, and tomatoes. Spend the rest of the day blissed out at Astoria Park.

The heat will probably be back on Sunday. So hit the a/c and watch High Sierra at the Museum of the Moving Image. Then drag yourself across the street to the Cup Diner (36-2 35th Ave) for a chocolate shake. If that revives you, head out of Astoria for once in your life and see what Jackson Heights' Little India is all about. Yeah, that's a proper weekend.
