Forest Hills Shopping on Austin Street
Tuesday December 14, 2004
Austin Street, Forest Hill's main shopping drag, may like to think it is hoity-toity, and it is enough to have earned an article in New York magazine on its boutiques and small shops. The article's map, though, is a bit daft. Just know that the main shopping on Austin Street is at 71st Avenue (Continental) and ranges between Ascan and 69th Place. There's a Barnes and Noble at 70th Avenue.
Refueling in Forest Hills restaurants won't be a problem. Hole-in-the-wall Pahal Zan serves amazing Israeli falafel and kebabs (106-12 71st Ave, 718-793-7177); Nick's serves the best pizza in Queens (108-26 Ascan Ave, 718-263-1126); and Dirty Pierre's is the place for a burger, mussels, and atmosphere (13 Station Square, 718-830-9698). Or cross Queens Blvd to see if Oishii’s, a little Japanese grocery, has any gyoza to take away (109-09 71st Rd).
Even better than food, turn away from the bustle and stretch your legs in gorgeous Station Square and calm Forest Hills Gardens.
