El Autómovil Gris: Zany Silent Film at Queens Theater in the Park

Thursday November 18, 2004
Automovil Gris
"You've been meaning to catch up on the Mexican silent cinema, but somehow the time is never right. Now the time has come."
El Autómovil Gris is a classic 1919 silent film of Mexican gangsters, and this Sunday it will be shown with live musicians and actors speaking the parts and reacting to the film at Queens Theater in Flushing Meadows. It's a crazy-sounding Mexican hybrid of the Japanese benshi tradition of giving live voices to silent movies, and it sounds like fun. (Part of the on-going México Now arts festival.)
