There are archives and photograph collections in Queens and NYC where you can get a print of an old photograph. You might even find a photo of your home from 1940.

The collection are pretty good for the 1960s and earlier. But for the 1970s and 1980s it's a little harder. Archives don't seem to have much interest in a time when almost everyone had a camera.
