I met the official “Queen of Corona”. She is 98 year old Rose Lordi, originally from Corona, Queens. She was crowned Queen of Corona in 1924. Shortly after, she moved to New York City.
She recalled to me in the spring of 1924 she had some boys who were constant admirers. They would come to her school to try to get her attention. Her teacher was constantly running the boys off and threatened to have them arrested. They returned and were arrested, but released immediately after their parents were called in.
She remembered one boy’s name was Robert Simon, who she assumed to be a relative of Paul Simon’s.
She didn’t realize until 1991 the song, Me and Julio… was in fact about her.
