Melted Ice and Millions in Losses
Thursday August 21, 2003
The blackout may have been calm and orderly, but businesses all over Queens got pinched as meats spoiled, ice cream melted, and customers disappeared. This Times Ledger article notes the losses and how local legislators want to help small businesses hurt by the blackout.
The lost ice cream, in my opinion, is the cruelest blow. To read that the folks at Ralph’s Ices of 41st Avenue in Bayside had to pour their inventory down the drain just about broke my heart. Ralph's serves some of the tastiest treats in eastern Queens.
