The Village Voice has up a great profile of Woodside, Queens. This neighborhood is a great place for everything from Guinness on tap to South American grill, Pakistani curries, and everything in between. Also see our Woodside photo tour.
Yes, you should feel safe. Of course everyone has a different background, but I’ve spent a lot of time in Woodside and have no problems. It’s a family neighborhood, but busy.
Should you exercise common sense about your personal safety? Yes, definitely. Like don’t walk along Roosevelt Ave by yourself at 3 am.
Woodside is working class and middle class, mainly immigrant, and very different from suburban San Diego. But if you can adjust, you’ll be safe.
I actually grew up in woodside, but i was just a kid when i left. I’m in town for a few next month and wanted to check out the old hood. I also wanted to hit Roosevelt ave, but it seems alot further off on the map than i remember, (in my 10 year old memory) is it actually a walkable distance say, from the old Big Six towers on 47th ave, over to roosevelt? am I crazy?
I was looking at renting an apartment in Woodside for myself and about 8 of my daughters friends for graduation in June of 09. I am really leary of renting because I have heard many horror stories. Do you know if Woodside has alot of apartment renting scams going on?
wooodside is crazy dangerous these dayz comparable to Beirut alot of new people have moved around here and are stinking the place up garbage everywhere
storefront churches liquor stores and bars everywhere you dont wanna get shot!
My child hood home through my late 20’s Woodside is a great place to live because of its diverse population. The Latin community has dominated woodside the last 20 years. before that it was more Irish, Italian, and Latin. Accessible to all NY provides. I miss it ..

I’m from suburban San Diego, CA. Am I going to feel safe renting a townhouse in Woodside, Queens for a week this summer?

47th Ave just south of Queens Blvd? It’s not a bad walk. Just a pain crossing Queens Blvd. Just depends where you want to go on Roosevelt Ave.
